Take Action Institutes Logo
The Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida’s Take Action Institute and USA Unites hosted a Zoom forum on Ukraine Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022. Learn about the context and history of the Ukraine and hear directly from a youth in Ukraine dealing with this Crisis. Professor Mayhill Fowler, an associate professor of history and the director of Stetson’s program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, will kick off the event by providing a summary of the history of Ukraine and the current conflict. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University, a master’s degree in Acting (MFA) from the National Theater Conservatory, a BA in Slavic Languages from Yale University, and was a Fulbright Scholar in Ukraine. She has published widely on all aspects of theater and culture in Ukraine, most recently in Slavic Review and Ukraina Moderna. Anton Kaluzhny, a youth leader in Kyiv
joined us to share his thoughts and experiences. Anton was involved in two revolutions: the Orange Revolution of 2004, as well as in 2014 in the Maidan Revolution. Anton organizes service projects to help orphans, widows, prisoners, as well as traveling to give aid in the front lines of eastern Ukraine. Prior to the invasion of Russia last week, Anton and his colleagues would take food, blankets, generators, and medicine to help Ukrainian soldiers in areas hardest hit from Russia in the east. At present, Anton is also working with church leaders to organize essential items that will be needed once it is possible to reach those in need of aid.
