Jewish life was thriving in Europe prior to the Holocaust. Jews were normal citizens just like their neighbors. They were doctors, lawyers, teachers, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters.
Morris Gruenberg grew up in a small Jewish neighborhood near Berlin, Germany. He was not a religious man, but felt very attached to Judaism.
Margo Haberman grew up in Nuremberg, Germany. Her parents were deeply religious and considered themselves Orthodox Jews. She describes the rise of the Nazis from her family’s perspective.
Rabbi Rozwaski grew up in Zdienciol, Poland. He recalls the differences between the Russian and German occupations of Poland.
