We all need to make a choice…are we going to be part of the solution, or are we going to be part of the problem?  On the journey to racial justice, it is important to recognize that each of us has a role to play – and even inaction has major consequences.  There is not one right approach, though. In fact, it is going to take a multi-pronged strategy for sustainable change.  What action will you take?

This session will define the terms ally and accomplice, and explore a variety of ways that each of us can make positive changes towards understanding, community building, and justice. Join facilitators Rachel Luce-Hitt and Anjella Warnshuis in a discussion on being part of the solution.

About our Speakers

Facilitators

Rachel Luce-Hitt, Education Director, Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida

As Education Director, Rachel is responsible for providing strategic leadership for school and community education programs including UpStanders: Stand Up to Bullying. She is charged with creating experiences that help people make the connections between lessons learned from the Holocaust and issues facing our world today. Prior to joining the HMREC team, Rachel spent 13 years working in higher education focusing on designing diversity and inclusion curriculum, facilitating difficult dialogues, and empowering people to find ways to create kinder and more socially just communities. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Rollins College. Additionally, she is a trained SEED Leader (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) and a member of the Jewish social justice Selah Leadership Network. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys working on her Jewish and Filipino genealogies, traveling, baking, and spending time with family.

Anjella Warnshuis, Administrative Coordinator, School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs at the University of Central Florida

During her 14 years of service at UCF, Anjella has worked tirelessly to increase diversity and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty.  In addition to her current role in the School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs, she has also worked in Africana Studies as well as Women and Gender Studies.  Anjella is a past president of the UCF Black Faculty and Staff Association and the current vice president of the UCF Pride Faculty and Staff Association. Anjella’s passion for learning more about diversity issues has led to her complete the Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) Program and to become an Inclusion Champion.  Outside of UCF Anjella enjoys volunteering with the Orange County League of Women Voters and Equality Florida.
