Our New Museum - Innovative Exhibits & Design

The Holocaust Museum for Hope & Humanity will be designed around the stories of survivors to engage, teach, and empower. What we are planning to build in downtown Orlando is a living narrative of the voices of people who lived through the Holocaust. It will serve to honor those we lost, to reflect on the power of stories as a legacy that we will always carry, and as a reminder of why we must stand up to antisemitism and prejudice today.

The common elements of humanity revealed will serve as a reminder of the vital importance of practicing the values of respect and compassion every day. The outcome will be a deeper understanding of real people, not just dates and statistics, thus inspiring and equipping guests to take action. Through the power of storytelling, select artifacts, and documents, the museum seeks to empower visitors to learn about history and to take action in their own lives and communities on issues vital to them.

At a time when we are losing all remaining Holocaust survivors, the new museum will employ state-of-the-art technology to ensure their voices are not forgotten. The entire visitor experience will guide individuals and groups to learn the history of the Holocaust, make connections to those who endured through it, and understand the power that we each possess even in the face of tremendous odds.

The exterior design of the museum will integrate concepts that honor the endurance of people surviving against all odds through the power of their culture. Inside, the museum will feature 44,500 square feet in which to tell the story of the holocaust and the power of human resilience in times of atrocity with new technologies designed specifically for the field of Holocaust survivor testimonies. This museum will honor the pioneering, inclusive, and collaborative spirit of Orlando, and attract visitors from around the world who are interested in the power of culture, stories, and history.

The use of survivor testimonies was not always at the forefront of the historical record of the Holocaust. Now, we recognize that listening to the first-person accounts helps us understand their individual experiences, the choices they were forced to make, and the humanity that they refused to abandon.

The Holocaust Museum for Hope & Humanity will inform, inspire, and remind us of our collective responsibility to positively impact society. It will provide hope for a better future and serve as a beacon of light, locally and globally.

Capital Gifts

With the transformational gift from the City of Orlando of the former Chamber of Commerce building and adjacent park, our community has an unparalleled opportunity to build a new Holocaust Museum for Hope & Humanity that will challenge the subculture of discrimination and hate in America, while providing a rich, collaborative space where new ideas can emerge with the potential to influence society far beyond the museum’s walls. We invite you to support this historic effort to join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando City Council, as well as several generous individuals to help us make this museum a reality.

The museum will offer a range of prominent naming opportunities. Please contact Kathy Turner (kturner@holocaustedu.org) for more information.

Planned Gifts

Please consider the power of a simple bequest in your Will or other planned gift to benefit our endowment fund. In doing so, you’ll be making an enduring legacy gift in support of our mission. Your unrestricted gift to the endowment is one of the most powerful ways you can help the future Museum meet the challenges of a constantly changing world. We have established a Legacy Society to recognize, honor and most of all thank individuals who have informed us that they have included the Holocaust Center in their estate plans through a bequest or other planned gift provision. You will join an extraordinary group of investors who have created a meaningful legacy that links their names in perpetuity to the Holocaust Center’s vital mission.

Meet some of our supporters

We are extremely grateful to have received generous support from the City of Orlando and a significant pledge from Orange County through Tourist Development Tax grant funding.  Equally important is the support we have received through individual donations and pledges, with the earliest major investments coming from philanthropists Jim Pugh and Jim Shapiro, and the largest commitment being that of Alan Ginsburg and the Ginsburg Family Foundation. With continued support, we will vastly expand our impact and build on the legacy Tess and Abe Wise started almost four decades ago. We will continue to use the history and lessons of the Holocaust to build a more just and caring community where all people feel safe and respected – one free of antisemitism and all forms of prejudice and bigotry.  Our new Museum will stand as a beacon of light and a reflection of the City’s values and culture of inclusiveness.
