Holocaust Museum for Hope & Humanity

Pam Kancher joined the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida as its Executive Director in October 2006 having relocated from New Orleans, where she had lived for 30 years, after Hurricane Katrina. As Executive Director of the Holocaust Center she has developed a reputation for innovative programming and community collaborations. Her recent achievements include the development of the Center’s highly respected UpStanders: Stand Up To Bullying initiative, leading the 2013 community commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, and facilitating the 2014 community celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. Pam is currently spearheading the Holocaust Center’s plans for a new museum.

Lisa Bachman

Lisa Bachman is Assistant Director responsible to lead all internal operations at the Holocaust Center including the strategic plan, programming, marketing and communications.
Prior to this position, Lisa spent six years working as the Executive Director of Different Like You, a 501c3 non-profit with the mission of empowering people to embrace their differences and live loud. Through their work, Lisa and her son created programming that literally saved lives and provided vital and life-changing support. To this day, she will stop what she is doing to provide love and support to a family in need.

Prior to her jump into the non-profit world, Lisa was Founder and President of All Points Connect from October 2000 – December 2015. All Points Connect was a non-traditional nationwide marketing company. Lisa worked with Fortune 500 companies including Sherwin Williams, General Mills, several sports teams in the NBA, NFL, and MLB as well as NASCAR and many others. In this role she provided services that put the corporate brand into people’s hands.

Lisa’s favorite thing is spending time with her family. She is a devout advocate for anyone who dealing with bullying, suicidal issues and Tourette Syndrome. She lives in Orlando with her husband of 33 years.

Kathy Turner

Sponsorships, Planned Giving, Major Gifts, Donations

Kathy serves as the Senior Development Director chiefly responsible for all fundraising initiatives, strategic plans and development staff.

She was previously with AdventHealth Foundation for 13 years as Senior Development Officer with primary fundraising responsibility for Celebration Health, AdventHealth Winter Park, the Transplant Institute, Neuroscience Institute and employee giving program. Kathy was part of the Health Systems Philanthropy Leadership Group’s Fellowship program through the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy which concluded in a presentation at the AHP International Conference in 2016.

Her focus is on building key relationships and securing major gifts to achieve annual philanthropic goals. Kathy currently serves at Grace Church and volunteers at Maitland Little League. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Ball State University and two master’s degrees from the University of St. Francis in Health Administration and Business Administration. She also has two children, Kamryn (10) and Mason (7).

Rachel Luce-Hitt

Education, UpStanders programming, teacher professional development

As Education Director, Rachel is responsible for providing strategic leadership for school and community education programs including UpStanders: Stand Up to Bullying. She is charged with creating experiences that help people make the connections between lessons learned from the Holocaust and issues facing our world today. Prior to joining the HMREC team, Rachel spent 13 years working in higher education focusing on designing diversity and inclusion curriculum, facilitating difficult dialogues, and empowering people to find ways to create kinder and more socially just communities. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Rollins College. Additionally, she is a trained SEED Leader (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) and a member of the Selah Leadership Network. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys working on her Jewish and Filipino genealogies, traveling, baking, and spending time with family.

Curtis Sakow

Fundraising Events

Curtis is responsible for the planning of our annual Dinner of Tribute event and supports the team in fund- and friend-raising in our community. Curtis moved to Orlando in 2008 to attend the University of Central Florida where he graduated with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on Mathematics, Physics, and Education. Curtis deeply values equality and human rights and believes that promoting education and raising awareness is imperative in creating a community free of hatred and bigotry.

When he’s not in the office, Curtis enjoys exploring different nature trails, being on the beach, and burying his nose in a book in local coffee shops.

Serena Ahmed

Exhibits, Programs, Scheduling Field Trips

Serena works on securing pertinent and innovative exhibits, speakers, and workshops to empower our communities with experiences and tools related to historical and socio-emotional knowledge. Serena also coordinates volunteers, supports the Upstanders educational programs and community outreach efforts. She is firmly dedicated to preserving and understanding the realities of the past, in order to make sense of the present and create a hopeful future. She is passionate about dialogical and holistic community education, equity and resource accessibility, critical consciousness empowerment and public policy. Serena has her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston, and her BA in Anthropology from Reed College. In her free time, she enjoys music, exercising, dancing, reading, making friends and traveling. Most of all, she loves quality moments with her partner, Sebastian, and their two cats, Manny and Xena.

Mitchell Bloomer

Resource Teacher

Educational Programs

Mitchell Bloomer has been the Resource Teacher at the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida since 1995. His position is a joint venture between Orange County Public Schools and the Center. He helps teachers and schools to implement the Florida mandate for Holocaust Education (F.S. 1003.42) through teacher training, direct student instruction, and curriculum design. Mitch believes that Holocaust education should help all learners to strengthen their commitment to civil rights, democratic values, and human dignity.

Christina Carey

Administrative Assistant

Scheduling and general museum questions

As Administrative Assistant for the Holocaust Center, Christina provides organizational support for the staff, greets and orients patrons, works with the Education team to schedule field trips and Upstanders programming, maintains community calendars, and collects and tracks demographic information.

A passionate student of the past, Christina holds a Bachelors’ degree in History from the University of Central Florida. She interned at the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation and has volunteered at both the Orange County Regional History Center and the Holocaust Center. She also brings an extensive background in customer service and retail management.
The World War II era is Christina’s primary focus and she is convinced that the memories of the Holocaust must be kept alive so that history is never repeated.

In her free time, Christina enjoys reading, exploring new places, and spending time with her husband, family, friends, and her 2 dogs.
