The 2008 Yom HaShoah Creative Arts Contest

Matt Teague - Apopka High School

The Holocaust Memorial Center sponsors an annual art and writing contest for the students of Central Florida. The contest allows students to respond to a specific theme relevant to the study and remembrance of the Holocaust. Students and teachers who participate in the contest make a strong statement in recognition of our common obligation to stand for justice, tolerance, and human rights. They are engaged in the building of a community that rejects prejudice and discrimination in all forms. The resulting projects create a fitting memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. There are contest categories for poetry, essay, creative writing, and art. There are also separate judging levels for elementary, middle, and high school students.
