Through a partnership with the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, the Center is launching a new educational initiative to integrate Holocaust Studies into public and independent schools in Poland.
American, Israeli and Polish scholars/academics will lecture and instruct Polish teachers on teaching the Holocaust responsibly in the classroom. Using resources and strategies the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida has utilized successfully over two decades, having introduced teachers' guides, curricula and resources now widely adopted in a number of states in the U.S., Polish teachers will benefit from our experiences and achievements. The lessons of the Holocaust must result in acceptance of diversity, responsible citizenship, respect for others, tolerance and caring.
The First Teachers' Institute on Holocaust Studies in Poland will take place in June of 2006, to be followed by programs in the east, west, north and center of Poland.
The Polish Education ministry is looking favorably on our mission, which is supported by the Jagiellonian University, Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida, private donors and grants from a variety of sources.
